MICHIGAN STATE CONFERENCE BELIEF STATEMENT

The Michigan State Conference of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People believes that each member is unique and valuable, and that knowledge leads to understanding and respect.  We believe that everyone benefits from the rich dimensions of diversity in our Association, in our workplaces, in our schools and in our communities.

 ABOUT THE MICHIGAN STATE CONFERENCE NAACP

For 100 years, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People built and grew on the collective courage of thousands of people.  People of all races, nationalities and faiths united on one premise—that all men and women are created equal.

Founded in 1935, the Michigan State Conference NAACP is the supervising unit that is directly responsible for its 30 plus adult branches and 20 youth councils and college chapters located in Michigan.  All NAACP Units within the geographic boundaries of the State Conference is a member of the State Conference and are subject to the State Conference’s efforts to coordinate NAACP activities and policies within its jurisdiction.

The purpose and aims of the State Conference is to eliminate racial prejudice; to keep the public aware of the adverse effects of discrimination; to take lawful action to secure the elimination of racial discrimination; to seek legislation and policies at the state level, or at other levels if requested by the National Office, which advance the programs and policies of the Association; and to oppose legislation and policies which are adverse to the programs and policies of the Association consistent with the efforts of the national organization and in conformity with the Articles of Incorporation of the Association, its Constitution and Bylaws, and as directed by the Board of Directors.  The Michigan State Conference is the proud recipient of the National NAACP Juanita Jackson Mitchell Award for Legal Activism presented at its 2007 Annual Convention in Detroit.

In addition, the State Conference’s objectives are to stimulate the Branches, Prison Branches, Young Adult Councils, Youth Councils, High School Chapters, College Chapters, Authorized Committees and any and all Units of the Association in its jurisdiction to greater activity in the fight for freedom; to revive dormant Units in the state; to organize new Units; to assist the Association in the conduct of the work of the NAACP by increasing support for the Association by the various Units within the state; to eliminate discrimination and injustice against minority people in the area; to seek enactment of laws in the state legislature which will advance the programs and policies of the Association.

Email/Feedback Property of NAACP

·         Conduct or forward surveys, contests, pyramid schemes or chain letters.

·         Download any file posted by another user of a Communication Service that you know, or reasonably should know, cannot be legally distributed in such manner.

·         Falsify or delete any author attributions, legal or other proper notices or proprietary designations or labels of the origin or source of software or other material contained in a file that is uploaded.

·         Restrict or inhibit any other user from using and enjoying the Communication Services.

·         Violate any code of conduct or other guidelines which may be applicable for any particular Communication Service.

·         Harvest or otherwise collect information about others, including e-mail addresses, without their consent.

·         Violate any applicable laws or regulations.

The NAACP has no obligation to monitor the Communication Services. However, the NAACP reserves the right to review materials posted to a Communication Service and to remove any materials in its sole discretion. The NAACP reserves the right to terminate your access to any or all of the Communication Services at any time, without notice, for any reason whatsoever.

The NAACP reserves the right at all times to disclose any information as necessary to satisfy any applicable law, regulation, legal process or governmental request, or to edit, refuse to post or to remove any information or materials, in whole or in part, in the NAACP's sole discretion.

Always use caution when giving out any personally identifying information about yourself or other people in any Communication Service. The NAACP does not control or endorse the content, messages or information found in any Communication Service and, therefore, the NAACP specifically disclaims any liability with regard to the Communication Services and any actions resulting from your participation in any Communication Service.
